About South River Elementary School

South River Elementary School (SRES), established in 1997, is a vibrant learning community that serves approximately 520 students in grades 3 through 5. Our dedicated staff of around 50 teachers and 25 support personnel is committed to providing a well-rounded education that fosters academic growth, creativity, and social responsibility.

At SRES, we offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities, including Drama Club, Kindness Club, Talent Show Club, and Student Safety Ambassadors, helping students develop leadership and teamwork skills outside of the classroom. We also host a variety of school-wide events, such as the Gifted & Talented Honors Ceremony, DREAMS Student of the Month recognitions, Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance celebrations, the Annual Talent Show, Hispanic Heritage Celebration, Black History Month Showcase, Multicultural Night, Fun Day, and trimester music concerts.

Our core curriculum includes English Language Arts (ELA), mathematics, science, and social studies, while students also participate in co-curricular specialty classes that explore STEM, art, Spanish, physical education, media literacy, music appreciation, guidance, and health/wellness through an engaging eight-day rotation. Special programs such as English as a Second Language (ESL), Gifted and Talented, and Special Education ensure that all students receive the support they need to succeed.

SRES values strong community partnerships, collaborating with the 21st Century Community Learning Centers' Program, L.E.A.D. with the South River Police Department, Responsive Classroom, South River Public Library, South River Elementary PTA, U.S. Department of Education's Institute of Education Sciences, and YMCA Camp Ralph S. Mason. These partnerships enhance our educational offerings and provide students with valuable learning experiences.

Our school's vision, "Diverse Minds, One Mission," emphasizes the value of diversity in achieving our goal of fostering academic excellence, offering innovative programs that empower students to make responsible choices, and promoting a strong partnership between home and school.
