About Our School

South River Elementary School is a safe and positive learning environment where students grow academically, emotionally, and socially. We serve students in grades three through five and offer an array of academic programs that support the needs of all of our students. South River Elementary School is nestled in the heart of Middlesex County in the beautiful Borough of South River, New Jersey

SRES School Hours:

  • Regular School Day: 8:10 - 2:45
  • Early Dismissal Day: 8:10 - 12:31 
  • Delayed Opening Day: 10:10 - 2:45

Facts about our school: 

  • School opened in 1997
  • We service students in grades 3 through 5
  • Approximately 520 students 
  • Approximately 50 teachers and 25 support staff
  • We offer clubs such as Art Club, Band, Drama Club, Kindness Club.
  • We host a variety of school-wide events and celebrations that include: Gifted & Talented Honors Ceremony, The DREAMS Awards, Student Achievement and Attendance Honorary Night, The SRES Annual Talent Show, Hispanic Heritage Celebration, Black History Month Showcase, Multicultural Night, SRES Fun Day, and the trimester music concerts.
  • Our team of teachers are responsible for instruction in the areas of ELA, math, science, and social studies. Additionally, students participate in an eight-day rotation of co-curricular specialty classes, which afford students an exploratory opportunity in STEM, Art, Spanish as a World Language, Physical Education, Media Literacy, Music Appreciation, Guidance, and Health/Wellness.
  • Special programs include: English as a Second Language, Gifted and Talented, and Special Education.
  • Important Partnerships and/or Programs include: 21st Century Community Learning Centers' Program; L.E.A.D. in Partnership with the South River Police Department; Responsive Classroom; South River Public Library; South River Elementary's Parent-Teacher Association; U.S. Department of Education's Office of Institute of Education Sciences; and YMCA Camp Ralph S. Mason.
